I wonder what makes the Knuckles range so enchanting. Perhaps it is the mist that often hovers the hills or the mighty four-cornered mountains. Tempted by the eye catching, mind blowing view, I decided to explore the facts of the Knuckles Mountain Range. I began my journey across the 4 mountains by first stepping foot on Raththota, then at Riverston, then at Bambaralla

Dumbara is a term that stands for misty in Sinhala. I believe the ancestors of Sri Lanka were so mesmerized by the cloudy mist surrounding the mountains, they could not help but name it Dumbara. The western part of this range was famous for its vast distribution of bamboo trees and hence this area was also given the name of “Bata Dandu Kanda” which translates as Bamboo shoot mountain in Sinhala.  With regard to Geology, the British began to refer to this as the Knuckles range due to its distant resemblance to a fist with knuckles denoting the points of the mountain.

The Knuckles Range is one of the top tourist attraction spots in Sri Lanka thanks to its breath taking views and comforting climate. It also bears a great deal of importance in terms of bio diversity and hydroscience.

Dumbaraforest range consists of a few spots considered as mini towns;home to a small population of civilians. The facility level in these areas is of a lesser degree and the residents live in rather harsh economic conditions. However, amidst all the hardship, this small community has adapted its own style of living, breathing fresh air, while maintaining a close interaction with the forest.Tiny water droplets that fall out of clouds drizzle over sparkling evergreen leaves of the forest. These drops then turn into fresh water streams that run through the neighborhood all year round regardless of the rain. As much as its beauty amazes the seeking eye, the residents of Dumbara have accustomed to its glory and made it an impartible aspect of their lives.

It is also important to note that though globalization plays a vital role in modernization, the introduction of modern road ways into highly culture centric villages may impact their life style. As such authorities need to be sensitive towards these matters when making development plans.

The Dumbara mountain range is situated in both Matale and Kandy district and it is nourished by both monsoon seasons of the country. It also acts as the main source of water for the Mahaweli River.

Hulu River, Kalu River, HasalakaOya and TheligamaOya are some of the streams that begin from the Dumbara peak. It also facilitates waterfalls such as Ratkinda Ella, Meemure Ella, VaddaPani Ella, Seru Ella, Rathna Ella and Hulu Ganga Ella.

During certain seasons, the Dumbara forest range can become quite windy. Plants that are mostly affected by this condition are well branched and have nodes on their trunks. The strong wind has also resulted in geological changes such as wind breaks.

Sera Ella -  Riverston , Matale ,Srilanka
Height: about 10m
There are few places that you can't miss, If you are in Matale. Sera Ella falls is one of them. It is a small but wide waterfall which brings us the beauty of mother nature.
There's a short but beautiful trek to take you to the waterfall and it's about 300m. Once you go there, you can go behind the fall because there's a dry but cool cave hidden behind the curtain of water as it flows down the rock face. There are no words to explain the beauty of her.. Her misty spray and moisture make you refreshed all over. at Riverstone-Mathale

Our intention is to give you an unforgettable vacation and valuable tour in Sri Lanka.

If you ever tasted a cup of good High Grown Ceylon Tea, preferably in the unblended form, you have tasted the BEST TEA there is. Of course, to experience that pleasure, you must go to the central hill country of Sri Lanka. And once you are there, take Route 5 from Maha Nuwara (Kandy) to Nuwara Eliya. This take you through some of the best scenery of the Hill Country. The road takes you by the shores of Mahaweli River from Peradeniya ( don't forget to visit the famous botanical gardens - remember "Bridge on the River Kwai?") to Gampola, long ago a capital of Sri Lanka. From Gampola it is a steep climb with many hairpin curves for some sixty kilometers, through spectacular scenery like this, until you get to Nuwara Eliya, the old British hill resort. To taste that heavenly cup of tea, on the way to Nuwara Eliya, look out for tea factories that advertise tea tasting. You won't forget that unique experience. The Verdant Hill Country - Ramboda Falls

Sri Lanka has 1,340 km of sea shore, and most of it is spectacular and full of contrasts. A serene, white sandy cove, next to a craggy promontory with thundering waves beating against the granite boulders. Few miles up or down the beach, perhaps a quaint fishing village, with rugged sea going "oru," a craft akin to an oversized canoe with a history going back to Inca times, drying on the beach. If you happen to be in the area of Ahangama, or Weligama, near Matara, the southernmost city in Sri Lanka, exactly 100 miles (161 km), from Colombo, you might be in for a unique sight - the stilt fishermen of Weligama -. Have your cameras ready and with a full roll of film, because you won't find this anywhere else in the world.

If you like to do some scuba diving, or do some quiet swimming, go past Matara to the four-mile-wide bay at Tangalla. The calm and clear water of Tangalla bay is a swimmers paradise. Perhaps you like some rougher water, to do some surfing--- not to worry, The small towns of ikkaduwa, Totagamuwa, and Dodanduwa, in the south- west corner of the island are blessed with the ideal beaches for that sport.
